The newest feature of Snapchat – Snap Map – is a really cool adding to the application, it has not been well received by many because of the alarmingly serious security and privacy concerns it raises.
If you followed the tutorial after the application update and did not think twice, we recommend that you continue reading to defense yourself.
So what makes it so terrible, and how can you get rid of it?
What is Snap Map?
Think of Google Maps, but with the icons that show where your friends are. That’s what Snap Map is. Since Snapchat has access to your phone’s location services to help provide geo filters, it knows its exact location. He even makes use of Action emojis, cartoon cartoons based on Bit emoji, to show the type of activity he is doing.
With Snap Map, that location is being shared with everyone in your Snapchat circle. That means your friends do not just know what city or neighborhood you are in, but you can see exactly where you are. This location is updated every time you open the application, so you do not even need to add a new Snap to reveal your location.
As you may suppose, the fall in the privacy of such a property is beyond madness. If you open Snapchat while walking in the park, your friends can see where you are. Do it at a friend’s party, and everyone knows where they live now? If you have a large number of people you do not know well, then this starts to worry a bit.
How to disable/disable Snap Map
For what it’s worth, Snapchat runs through a brief tutorial on how the feature works and then asks you to choose who to share with: just yourself, all your friends, or a select group.
If it was with the first option, everything is ready. But if you choose one of the other two options and you do not want everyone to know where you are, follow these steps.
Here’s how you can disable Snapchat Snap Map:
From the camera screen, use two fingers to pinch as if you are zooming in on a map. This opens the map.
On the instant map, tap the gear icon in the upper right corner.
Under Settings, activate Ghost mode.
That’s. Your Snapchat friends will not be able to see it on Snap Map. You will still be able to see the locations of your friends though. If you care about your privacy, you should tell them to turn it off as well.
