LAS ANGELES: Pakistani-Canadian Filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s Documentary Film ‘A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness,’ has won Oscar Academy Award.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has become the first person who has won Oscar Award twice for the Pakistan. ‘A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness,’ got the honour of best documentary at the 88th Oscar Academy Award.
The story of the film ‘A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness,’ is based on a 19-years old girl namely ‘Saba Qaiser’. In the film, people wanted to kill her on the name of honour. She was beaten, shot and thrown into the river. Because she did not want to get marry to fiancé whom her family earlier accepted.
On this occasion, said by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy that determined women get her hard work reward in the shape of success. I am grateful to all those who supported me in the film. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has promised me to amend the law on honour killing, this is the strength of film that Government decided to amend in the law, further said by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif congratulated to Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for winning Oscar Award and said that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has raised Pakistan’s name in abroad. The entire nation is proud of her. Honour killing not an honour even Islam does not allow it.
It is clear that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has already won Oscar Award in 2012 for her documentary ‘Saving Face’ and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has won second Oscar award.
